ask (or offer)
an order to sell
bid
an order to buy
call option
a contract that offers its holder the right to buy the underlying asset at a specific price, called strike price, on a specific date, called maturity.
futures (or futures contract)
a contract to deliver a product at a certain time in the future. In our case, the product is the election outcome.
limit order
an ask or bid order with limits. A bid limit-order specifies the highest price the bidder is affordable to buy; an ask limit-order specifies the lowest price the contract owner is willing to sell. A limit order also specifies an expiration time.
liquidation
conversion of a contract into cash
long
buy an option
market order
a purchase or sale of contracts at the current market price. Since no upper or lower limits are set, it is also called an unlimited order.
maturity
the date on which the right offered by an option is exercised.
offer (or ask)
an order to sell
put option
a contract that offers its holder the right to sell the underlying asset at a specific price, called strike price, on a specific date, called maturity.
short
sell (or write) an option
strike price
the price at which the underlying asset of an option is bought or sold.
